Do it yourself SEO Steps

Glenn Magas dot ComThere is a reason why, as a blogger who wants to get more page views, that you learn SEO or Search Engine Optimization. If you are a business or a blogger just starting out and you want to be found through organic searches (where someone types in something in Google’s search) you want your page to pop up as high in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). A quick and affordable way is to follow a do it yourself SEO practice.

I’ve been a ‘serious’ blogger since January 31, 2010. “Serious” meaning, I’m determined to take my blogging to the bank and earn money for what I write. Since then I’ve developed simple, do it yourself SEO steps, that, for ‘most’ of my keywords, are helping my posts on my blogs climb the SERP. As I continue to focus on specific keywords and pages, I can see that the time spent on do it yourself SEO has helped and will eventually pay off.

One post, with a competitive keyword, immediately was on page 4 on Google’s SERP. By the end of the day it was on page 2. The next morning it was on page 1 in the top 20 and I saw a huge boost in page views because of it. Why? Through SEO and do it your SEO tips that I’ll share with you today.

7 DO IT YOURSELF SEO STEPS

1. Build a list
2. Enter your best words into Google Keyword’s Tool
3. Be a member at The Keyword Academy
4. Be a member of SEOBook.com and utilize all their free tools!
5. Find potential income generating keywords with low difficulty and use them in your posts
6. Track your keywords using SEO Book’s Rank Analyzer for Mozilla Firefox
7. Stay up-to-date with SEO

I’d like to emphasize, most people won’t get past #1. Building a list means writing it down. Everything from leadership books, success, self-improvement tips, goals, etc. starts by building a list and writing it down. If you want to succeed in anything in life, writing your goals, and in this case – your goals start at #1 – starts with building a list!

It gets hard after Step #3 and if those made it past #1, we’ll find most of those people stopping as they get into #3. But ‘hard’ is relative. And I have to really emphasize what I tell everyone about success:

Where there is difficulty there is opportunity!

Motivational quote:

The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. Sir Winston Churchill

SEO is incredibly simple! Don’t confuse that with easy. It is simple, but it is not easy!

1. Build a list

Based on your Niche, it could be Fitness Tips, Photography, Blogging, etc., write all the ‘keywords’ or search words that you would use to search your niche. This blog has several – Photography, Leadership, Personal Achievement, Blogging, etc. I have built lists for each and each list may start with 10-20 keywords and has grown to 100-1000 keywords!

This is an important brain storming session. Build a list without editing it. Keywords could mean phrases too. People rarely just type one word into Google Search Engine. They type phrases and build on those keywords and phrases to eventually search and find what they are looking for.

2. Start taking your words and enter them into Google’s Adwords: Keywords tool.

This will give you more ideas on synonyms that people may use to search your niche. Your list will grow and grow. You can click “add” and download the list into Excel to track your words.

3. Be a member at The Keyword Academy

Here’s where it can cost you $1 or $33/month. It is up to you. But The Keyword Academy offers $1 for your first month and continued membership is $33/month. Either way, $1 is the deal of the century. You can dedicate a month to keyword research and leave it at that, but I guarantee you will find so much value at “TKA” that $33 is actually the deal of the century.

With TKA you can use their keyword analyzer, “The Niche Factory” (or Niche Academy).

This is where it gets hard.

But the question is – do you want to succeed? It will take hard work and dedication. If you are unwilling to learn, you are accepting the fact that there is no future in blogging to the bank or do it yourself SEO.

TKA will teach you how to use your keywords in Google AdWords:Keyword tool and analyze them in “Niche Factory” in order to generate a comprehensive list of low difficulty keywords and income potential with your list!

See – it all revolves around the first step – your list. Your list is key!

The Niche Factory will analyze your keywords and provide you a potential monthly income if your page hits the #1 spot on Google SERP. I’ve hit number one a couple of times with some of my keywords. And like I mentioned above, 90% of my keywords are actually climbing the rank in the SERP!

4. Be a member of SEOBook.com‘s and utilize all their free tools!

Wow – talk about a ton of utilities that help in do it yourself SEO. From SEOBook’s tool bar to their Rank Checker – it is all amazing and helpful stuff! I run Rank Checker several times a day, I see what keyword is slipping and go back to those pages and work on them or write more posts and articles with the keyword. This is a great way to gauge your performance and it’s nice waking up in the morning seeing a new Keyword helping my blogs climb the search engine results pages!

5. Find potential income generating keywords with low difficulty and use them in your posts

Here you go. Start with 10 keywords that show a decent monthly potential. I like using keywords that have a monthly potential of $9 or more! Sometimes it will be difficult to find great words with a low difficulty level. But once you do, you are well on your way to blogging success!

Use 10 keywords and write 10 different posts/articles with each! Then do it again.

Who said Blogging was easy?

Yes, blogging is easy – if you just want to write and not be read. Blogging is simple, but if you want to take your blog to the bank, you need to work at it! That’s the hard part.

Remember, blogging to the bank is simple – but not easy!

6. Track your keywords using SEO Book’s Rank Checker for Mozilla Firefox

Do a daily check on how your work has produced results. SEO Book’s Rank Checker for Mozilla Firefox will show you up-to-date results on where your keywords and the pages associated with them are ranking on Google, Yahoo and Bing!

7. Stay up-to-date with SEO

Repeat steps 1-6! Step 7 requires you to be up-to-date in the ever changing world of SEO. SEO is an art and science, and it changes daily it seems. What you did yesterday might change over night. This is GREAT and BAD at the same time! I emphasize how great it is when something you work hard on shows up on page 1 in the SERP and/or #1 on page 1! It’s bad if you see pages fall off the map and ignore it.

Do it your SEO is a very enjoyable process if you create a sense of purpose for your work. You can never control the results, you can only control your actions. Take the above actions and you will start to see results in your favor!

One last motivational quote:

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Thomas Edison

I hope this helps!
