A Successful Life does not come without failure

A Successful Life does not come without failure.

It’s true – the most successful people did not achieve success without failing first. It is how they handled their failures and what they did to get back on their feet to overcome the ‘setback’ in order to have a successful life.

Take this motivational quote:

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.” Vincent T. Lombardi

The ‘lack of will’ is exactly what sets the achievers from the failures that give up when they fail. You will never achieve success if you accept failure as the end result.

My son, on Thursday playing in the Little League Minor League division, got his first hit in his second year as a minor league player. He has always found success in baseball in every division. In the Minors, he is a sure glove and can put the ball across the plate when he’s on the mound.

This first hit comes amidst a whole season of failure: a whole season of being afraid of being hit by the ball instead of thinking first to hit the ball. Today, as he stood at the edge of the dugout before the game he watched a 5’10” 11 year old on the mound sling the ball to a catcher behind the plate. Jake is 4’4″ and 9 years old to put it into his perspective.

Jake can hit 45 mph pitches one after the other in the batting cages. He had a hit two days ago that boosted his confidence and said, “When you hit the ball, people appreciate you more.” But today, I saw the fear in his eyes.

The pitcher wasn’t throwing any faster than 45 mph and should be throwing 60 mph fastballs down the middle. But he wasn’t. All the kids seemed to think he was.

The only time you don’t fail is the last time you try anything – and it works. ~William Strong

I asked Jacob, “You gonna get a hit?” He replied timidly, “I don’t know.” I made him look at me and said, “Say, ‘I’m going to get a hit!”. He started to make an excuse as to why he wasn’t and I stopped him before he uttered a word. “Say, ‘I’m going to get a hit!’”

“I’m going to get a hit.”

I told him to choke up, swing at anything good, and get a hit.

He sent a shot in between 3rd and shortstop and raced for second for a close double.

I have NO DOUBT in my mind that he was already resorting to failure. I have no doubt in my mind that if he walked up to the plate without saying, “I’m going to get a hit” that he was not going to get a hit. I had no doubt in my mind that he was going to get a hit – and that’s how failures look the possibility of failure back in the eye and say, “I’m going to get a hit.”

Just like the saying, “Think and grow rich” you also need to think and hit the baseball. It is a great metaphor of life!

There have been so many people of success that you and I know of that were told they weren’t going to succeed. This video is a great example of those people, who, despite failure, despite obstacles where people said they could not achieve success, persevered and achieved the greatest success.

Jacob, after that double, had a single, and a walk going 2 for 2 tonight. He ended stealing home in the bottom of the 6th in a tie game to win the game.

There is no failure except in no longer trying. ~Elbert Hubbard

He had a year of failure. He came back into the team with the same sort of bad habit and thinking process “fail first.” Tonight, he learned something – that no matter how big the obstacle. No matter how tall the mountain. No matter how fast the baseball – success is only one swing of the bat away.

A year of failure could mean a lifetime of prosperity! ~G Magas

Just ask Kirk Gibson, Kirby Puckett, Joe Carter, and Derek Jeter – among a few others. All who, being down and close to failure, picked up a bat, swung, and ended a game with a home run. They had confidence that one swing can turn a failure to a success. They were able to achieve success because of it. (Related Post: “Personal Success – Get into the spirit of baseball

A successful life comes by putting your back against the wall. It comes at high costs. It comes just after you fail and decide to get back up and take a swing at a pitch.

You can’t have any successes unless you can accept failure. ~George Cukor

Do you want to achieve success? Then you need to fail and then persevere.

Failure, for most, is not an option. The thing is, even if it is not an option, they get back up and try it again and say once again – “failure – it is not an option.”
